12 Restaurants for 2013

Happy New Year.

It's been a long, slow blogging process. So if anyone reads this, I apologize for the delay. 2013 will be more fertile with posts about drinks out, drinks made, dinners out, and a recipe here or there. The photography will not be great. This blog will not compare to smitten kitchen or lady gouda.

So this year's first post will be the 12 new restaurants we'll visit this year. We made it to 9 of the 12 in 2011.

  1. Allswell (Williamsburg) - This should have been our neighborhood place. I mean the chef here signed on to cook at a very close-by restaurant and we were thrilled. Then, after a month, he was gone.
  2. Gwynnett St (Williamsburg)
  3. Hibino (Cobble Hill) - We learned to make okonomiyaki, gyoza, and oyakadon in 2012, so any Japanese place not focused on sushi is appealing. Plus this is next to Henry Public (pdf).
  4. Kin Shop (Chelsea)
  5. La Vara (Cobble Hill)
  6. Maison Premiere (Williamsburg) - We are all in when it comes to oysters.
  7. Mission Chinese Food (Lower East Side) - I hope the restaurant is better than the cookbook. The book's recipes are poorly edited and often require a lot of ratio math to make a reasonable amount for a household.
  8. Pok Pok (Red Hook)
  9. Purple Yam (Ditmas Park) - Ten years ago (and more), we used to spend many nights at Cendrillon. We loved it and now that the husband-wife team moved to Brooklyn, we've been exactly ZERO times. Shame on us.
  10. SriPraPhai (Woodside)
  11. Talde (Park Slope)
  12. Yopparai (Lower East Side) - Small, sake-driven restaurants intrigue me.
